How do I start using Annoto in Canvas?

Updated on

By default, Canvas course Media Galleries only have Annoto Analytics features enabled.  To start using Annoto video commenting and other features, the course instructor must first activate it in the Annoto dashboard.  Video commenting must be enabled in each individual course that the instructor wants to use it.  Once enabled in the course's Annoto dashboard (located in the Media Gallery), all videos embedded or published in that specific course will feature the Annoto commenting module.  Please note that Annoto is only available in videos that are published from the instructor or student's Kaltura/My Media account in Canvas.

1. Go to Media Gallery in your Canvas course

Click on the Media Gallery section from the left side bar in the course that you want to enable Annoto in.

2. Select Annoto Dashboard

Click the Channel Actions button in the top right corner of the Media Gallery.  Then click "Annoto Dashboard".

3. Course Preferences

In the Annoto Dashboard, click the Preferences tab at the top of the page.

4. Presets

Set the Preset option to Collaborative Learning and also enable the Video Comments option.

Further Resources

Other Annoto features available in the dashboard can also be enabled in your course.  For more information, please visit Annoto's website to learn more about the available features.
