How do I privately comment on a video assignment to my instructor or student?

Updated on

Introduction

Annoto can accommodate private comments between instructor and individual students for videos that are submitted as assignments.  Instructors can set up video submission assignments using the Text option in Canvas Assignments.

Students - Submitting video assignments in Canvas

1. Activate Annoto

By default, Canvas course Media Galleries only have Annoto Analytics features enabled.  To start using Annoto video commenting and other features, the course instructor must first activate it in the Annoto dashboard. Video commenting must be enabled in each individual course that the instructor wants to use it.

For more information on how to activate Annoto in your course, please visit our "How do I start using Annoto in Canvas?" article.

2. Select video dimensions

When students embed videos while submitting an assignment, the 1024x576 or 608x402 player size must be used.  Comments will not be visible when using the 400x285 size.  Embed Settings (including player size) can be selected by clicking the gear icon in the Kaltura Embed Tool.

3. Submit assignment

Submitting a video assignment will automatically have Annoto features when viewing the assignment through Speedgrader.

4. Open Speedgrader

Once a student's video assignment has been submitted, instructor and student comments can be added when viewing the video in Speedgrader or the student's submission details screen.

Note: Comments can also be recorded as videos or screen recordings directly in the Annoto window using the Annoto video commenting tool.
