How do I prevent "Zoom-bombing" incidents in my Zoom meeting?

Zoom offers a number of security settings to help you secure your meeting and avoid unwanted interruptions such as “Zoom-bombing” incidents.  Below are recommended settings for a secure meeting.

If you do experience a Zoom-bombing incident in your meeting, please report to [email protected] and include the Zoom meeting id, the host's UNID and a description of what happened during the incident.

1. Enable a passcode and waiting room on your meeting

These can be turned on in your meeting settings when creating your meeting.

2. Require utah.edu authentication to join your meeting

This setting will require any participant to be signed into a utah.edu Zoom account in order to join your meeting. This setting can be found in your meeting settings when creating your meeting.

3. Avoid using your Personal Meeting ID for public events

5. Require registration

Registration allows you to have a record of email addresses of users joining your meeting. This setting can be enabled in the meeting settings.

6. Use the Security options in your meeting

The Security options can disable certain features of participants. The host can also lock the meeting once all invited participants have joined. Once a meeting is locked, no further participants can join the call. 

7. When Screen Sharing, select Disable Annotation for Others option

When screen sharing, the host or participant sharing their screen should disable annotation for others. This option can be accessed in the More button when a user is sharing, click "disable Annotation for Others
