How do I enable captioning in Zoom?

Updated on

Zoom's live captioning feature provides automatic machine captioning for your Zoom meetings. The accuracy of Zooms live transcription feature depends on many variables, such as but not limited to:

  • Background noise
  • Volume and clarity of the speakers voice
  • Speaker's proficiency with the English language
  • Lexicons and dialects specific to a geography or community

1. In a Zoom Meeting, click the "Show Captions" button

2. Choose your speaking language

When using automated captions, English is the default language, but other languages can be selected.

2.1. In the meeting controls next to the Show Captions option, click the up-caret icon

2.2. Select the Speaking language option to view other languages available for captioning. When selected, Zoom will begin transcribing your speech in the chosen language.

3. Adjust the closed captioning size

3.1. In the meeting controls next to the Show Captions option, click the up-caret

3.2. Select Subtitle Settings

3.3. Under Closed Captioning, move the slider to adjust the caption size
